Tony McAuley's Glens, Walking and Cycling in North Antrim celebrates Tony McAuley's long association with the Antrim Glens and the affection in which he held both the place and its people. His father William John McAuley was a Glensman, as were his forefathers and in the Middle Glens, particularly in Glendun, the McAuley's can trace their forefathers back for generations.

At the core of the book lie eight walks, most of which can also be cycled. Each of the walks relates to a specific and unique stretch of territory. The title of the book, Tony McAuley's Glens, has been liberally interpreted, for a section concerns Rathlin Island and another deals with the Giants Causeway. The remainder of the book concentrates on walks that can be made through the landscape lying between Carncastle and Cushendun. Two of them are strenuous hill walks over well marked mountain routes while the remainder follow small winding roads and pathways through the Glens countryside and along the coast.

This book however is much more than a book on walking. It is also a walk through the history and the lore of the Antrim Glens. Each of the walks throws a spotlight on some aspect of life, past or present, in the glens for the book's intention is to acquaint people with the wealth of culture and history in the Glens as well as with the outstanding natural beauty of the area. It is a book for the walker, for the casual visitor and indeed for anyone wanting information about the place.

It is also a visually pleasing book, well illustrated with photographs of the hills, the deep glens and the dramatic seascapes that combine to make the Glens of Antrim one of the most beautiful places in Ireland.
